Celebrating International Women’s Day: A Conversation with AdhereHealth’s Women Leaders

Published on .

Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day—a global event dedicated to honoring the achievements of women, raising awareness about equality and driving action to create a more inclusive world.

This annual event is an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions of women across all industries and reflect on all the ways we can collectively support and empower women to succeed.

At AdhereHealth, we’re proud to highlight the voices of the incredible women on our leadership team who inspire positive change every day. We interviewed these team members to share their perspectives on the importance of International Women’s Day and their journeys as women in healthcare leadership.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you, and how can organizations use this occasion to inspire action and drive change for women?

Dr. Chandra Y. Osborn, Chief Experience Officer:

“International Women’s Day is about celebrating progress while recognizing all the work still ahead. It’s about celebrating achievements and re-igniting our commitment to breaking down the barriers that hold women back.

Organizations have an opportunity to turn this day into momentum. By listening to employees and fostering open dialogue, companies can build a culture where gender equity is woven into daily operations. Whether through informal or formal mentorship opportunities, encouraging diversity in leadership, or prioritizing work-life balance, every action—no matter how small—makes a difference.”

What inspired you to pursue a leadership role in the healthcare industry, and how has your journey shaped your perspective as a female leader?

Angie Hlad, Vice President, Client Success:

“My passion for healthcare leadership stems from my belief in equitable access to care. The challenges I’ve faced as a woman have shaped my determination to advocate for inclusivity, not only in patient care but also in organizational culture. Being a female leader means empowering others and paving the way for the next generation of women.”

Joan Polk, Associate Vice President, Clinical Operations:

“I was inspired by the profound impact healthcare has on people’s lives. I wanted to be part of an industry where I could make a meaningful difference every day. My journey has taught me the importance of empathy and resilience. As a female leader, I’ve learned that authenticity and collaboration are key to building trust and driving change. In addition, I have such respect and appreciation for all the women who have encouraged and mentored me along the way, and endeavor to do the same—it’s so important for women to lift each other up!”

What are some practical ways women can support and uplift one another in their professional journeys?

Heather Hilty, Senior Vice President, Experience & Growth Operations:

“One of the most effective ways women can support each other is through mentorship. Sharing knowledge, offering guidance and opening doors can have a lasting impact on someone’s career. Equally important is celebrating each other’s successes—when one woman wins, we all do.”

Aarti Patel, Associate Vice President, Human Resources:

“Networking and creating spaces for women to connect and collaborate are essential. Building strong professional relationships not only fosters support but also helps amplify our collective voice. I also believe in the power of vulnerability—being open about challenges can inspire others to overcome their own.”

What do you think are the biggest challenges women face in the workforce today, and how can organizations address these challenges?

Sara Baughn, Senior Vice President, Business Development:

“One of the biggest challenges women face is breaking free from societal expectations that can limit their growth. Whether it’s feeling the need to overprove their worth or navigating industries that lack diversity (especially in Sales), it can be exhausting. I’ve found that building personal strength (and softness) helps me approach professional situations with confidence, while also bringing empathy and compassion. Organizations can provide support by fostering a culture of collaboration between male and female leaders; and value the balance inherent when we work together.”

What advice would you give to young women entering the workforce or aspiring to leadership roles?

Kelly Amoroso, Director of Compliance:

“Be a sponge. Be curious. Normalize asking questions. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back from pursuing opportunities for growth, even if you have a lack of experience. I’ve found we often learn best by doing and sometimes that means figuring it out as we go. Those new skills may take you down a whole different career path you love, rather than the one you originally saw yourself in when you first joined the workforce.

In any position, do not compromise on your ideals or your integrity. Doing the right thing may not always make you the most popular person in every room, but ultimately it will land you in the right rooms with the right people.”
